About

The Internet Society Hawaii Chapter (ISOC-HI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the Internet remains open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy for the people of Hawaii. We are the local chapter of the global Internet Society, a community-driven organization founded by Internet pioneers to promote the open development and evolution of the Internet.

Our History: ISOC-HI has deep roots in the Pacific’s digital history. The chapter was originally formed in 1995, coinciding with the 5th Annual INET International Networking Conference held in Honolulu, a pivotal moment when the web was just beginning to connect the world. After a period of dormancy, the chapter was revitalized in 2019 to address urgent modern challenges, including indigenous connectivity, digital inclusion and infrastructure resilience.

Our Purpose: Our mission is guided by a simple vision: The Internet is for Everyone. We work to bridge the digital divide across our island communities, advocating for policies and technical solutions that ensure every resident has access to affordable, reliable, and safe connectivity. Founded in Aloha, we serve as a hub for policy, technology, and community advocacy and strive to establish Hawaii as a leader in the digital Pacific.
